Authorized  Modification 
  
 

1.   ORIGINAL SPECIFICATION
a.  No Modification. 
Except for the few modifications allowed in these Regulations, your car must be to exact original specification. By "original specification," we mean that your car must be exactly the same as when it was manufactured, without modification.
 
NOTE THAT ANNEX B CONTAINS FIA RESTRICTIONS AND PERMITTED MODIFICATIONS FOR CERTAIN SPORTS CARS, POSSIBLY INCLUDING YOUR CAR.  

Except   

b. Proof of Original Specification.
If a scrutineer questions a part of your car, you must prove that it is original specification for your car by showing to the scrutineer that the part appears or is described in:
i.  the original FIA homologation papers for your car's model; or
ii. your car manufacturer's official sales brochures, handbook, workshop manual, or spares parts list published during your car's period; or
iii. at least two magazine articles published during your car's period (that is, at or about the time your car was manufactured).
     
If you do not have any of the above, we might (but probably will not) accept books and magazine articles written out of your car's period. If you cannot prove that the part questioned by the scrutineer is original specification, you must replace the part or be disqualified.
  
2. CHASSIS:  
You may: 
a.  strengthen, change the location of, and add jacking points.
b.  stiffen the chassis by adding material to limited areas of the chassis, but not so as to have an interacting effect which could be considered general stiffening and not by adding new stressed members.
    
3. FRONT AND REAR SUSPENSION:  
Provided the original supports are not be changed in any way, you may:
a. fit any brand of shock absorbers (dampers), including adjustable ones, provided the number of shock absorbers and principle of operation (whether telescopic or lever type, hydraulic, gas-filled hydraulic or friction operated) are of original specification; shock absorbers with a gas chamber additional to the original, whether outside or inside the damper body, are not acceptable; 
b.  for safety reasons, replace a one-piece steering column with a column with universal joints;
c.  use suspension bushes made of nylon or any other material
d.  replace springs on condition that the type and number of springs are identical to your car's original specification; the number of coils and leaves is free, but variable rate springs may be used only if you can prove this was an original specification for your car;
e.  use adjustable spring platforms and ride height provided:
i.  they are an original specification for your car, and
ii.  only the original means of adjustment are used; 
iii.   fit an anti-roll bar, on condition that it: 
a)  does not constitute an additional wheel location device; 
b)  is not adjustable; and
c)  is of one-piece construction from a solid bar;
iv. rose joints may be used provided suspension geometry is not affected. 
    
4. TRACK AND GROUND CLEARANCE  
You may: 
a.  increase or decrease the track by an amount not exceeding 1% of the original dimension; and 
b.  reduce ground clearance, provided all sprung parts of the car have a minimum ground clearance of 100mm, such that a block of 800mm x 800mm x 100mm may be passed underneath your car from any side. 
  
5.  ENGINE  
You may:
a.  rebore up to a maximum oversize of 1.2mm of the original bore;
b.  replace the crankshaft by a component manufactured from a ferrous material, provided it is identical in design and in all dimensions to the original component;
c.  use reproduction main bearing caps manufactured to the same pattern and from the same material as the originals;
d.  alter the compression ratio by machining the face of the block or cylinder head or by omitting the gasket or using a gasket of different thickness; 
e.  modify pistons, camshafts, and valve springs, or use alternatives of different specification or manufacture, provided that the number employed does not exceed that of the homologated engine;  
f.  finish, machine, polish, and balance engine parts, provided that:
i.  the operations are carried out with no addition of material; 
ii.  the dimensions and weights given on the car's homologation form are respected, taking into account a tolerance of 5%; 
g.  install an oil filter and oil cooler for engine oil only; oil coolers must be contained within the bodywork; 
h.  install fixed or mobile sump baffles and gates.
   
6. IGNITION SYSTEM  
You may: 
a.  change the brand of sparking plugs, ignition coil, condenser, and distributor, but the number of plugs per cylinder, the ignition coil, condenser, distributor, and spark plug types must conform to original specification; 
b.  use sparking plugs of smaller diameter than the original specification, with appropriate adaptors, if you can prove they were used during your car's period.
   
7. FUEL SYSTEM  
You may:
a.  change or remove air filters;
b.  change the jets and chokes of carburetors or change carburetors completely, provided:
i.  the make and all details of design and operational principles remain identical to the original carburetors (number of chokes, jets, throttles, pumps, etc.);
ii.  the carburetors can be fitted directly to the original inlet manifold without any intermediary piece;
c.  replace the fuel tank with one of smaller capacity or with an FIA-approved safety fuel tank that does not exceed the original capacity, provided the new tank is installed in the original location or in the boot;
d.  substitute electrical pumps for mechanical pumps, and vice-versa, and change their number and locations;
e.  change the location of fuel pipes;
f.  for safety, use hoses of any kind.
   
8.  COOLING SYSTEM  
You may:
a. install a radiator screen, whether fixed or mobile;
b. remove heater radiators;
c. change the location of water pipes;
d. change the number and dimensions of, or completely remove, fan blades, or install a clutch to stop fan action, or replace the original fan with an electrical fan;
e. replace, modify, or remove the thermostat;
f. change the radiator without restriction.
  
9. EXHAUST SYSTEM  
You may:
a. replace or modify the exhaust manifold and tailpipe, provided
b. the exits of the exhaust pipes are placed between 45cm and 10cm from the ground and do not protrude more than 10cm from the perimeter of the car;
c.  the exits are behind the center of the car's wheelbase;
d.  the exhaust system is not a temporary one;
e.  parts of the chassis are not used to evacuate exhaust gas;
f.  replace or, unless otherwise provided in the Race Notice, remove the silencer.
  
10. TRANSMISSION AND FINAL DRIVE  
You may:
a.  replace helical-cut pinions with straight-cut ones, provided the original ratios are not changed;
b. install a limited slip differential of a type conforming to the original specification.
    
11. BRAKES
You may:
a. protect brake pipes by flexible armored casing;
b. for safety, use hoses of any kind;
c.  change the material of brake linings;
d. remove dust shields;
e. convert the braking system to dual-circuit operation providing simultaneous operation on all four wheels via two distinct hydraulic circuits, provided that;
i. it does not affect the position and the attachment of the pedals nor the structure or the body of the car;
ii.  any device allowing the balancing of braking effort between front and rear wheels is not operable by the driver while seated in the driving seat.
f. fit or disconnect a serve-assisted system
g. fit a pressure-limiting device, provided it is an original specification for your car;
h. alter the method of attachment of friction materials.
  
12.  BODYWORK  
You may:
a. remove external body embellishments and trim (with the exception of the radiator grill and those surrounding the headlights), provided no exposed sharp edges result;
b. fit headlight covers, provided they do not influence the aerodynamics of your car (retractable headlights must be as original, with the full mechanism in place);
c. fit any removable hardtop from the period, as supplied by the vehicle manufacturer or by an outside supplier; 
d. replace rear windows, door windows, and quarter lights (windows) with a rigid transparent material at least 5mm thick (Lexan 400 is recommended);
e.  replace vertically opening side-windows with horizontally sliding panes, but the original opening mechanism must be retained;
f. for an open car built before 1962, use any windscreen, provided that the windscreen height is at least 20cm above the scuttle and, if the car was built between 1955 and 1962, the windscreen width is at least 90cm (if the engine displacement is up to 1000cc) or 100cm (over 1000cc);
g. carry out bodywork modifications used in the period within the limits of the international rules for Grand Touring cars in force at the time, on condition that the bodywork is in conformity with a COMPLETE configuration used on the model concerned in an international competition run to FIA regulations in the period. 
  
13. COCKPIT
You may: 
a. alter seat brackets and fit any kind of seat, but a period appearance is recommended;
b.  replace the original speedometer, provided the replacement is situated exactly in the same housing and is analog; 
c.  install supplementary analog instruments; 
d.  replace an electric water thermometer with a capillary-type instrument and replace a standard manometer with a more accurate one;
e.  fit an alternative steering wheel, provided the original method of attachment to the steering column is retained; a period appearance is recommended; 
f.  convert from right-hand drive to left-hand drive, or vice versa, provided the model was offered by the manufacturer in that specification; 
g.  lengthen the hand brake lever and re-locate it within the cockpit, or modify the hand-brake for instantaneous release ("fly-off" action); 
h.  remove any rear passenger seats and squabs; 
i. remove floor and roof trim; 
j.  replace door trim; 
k.  lower the steering column.
 
14. ELECTRICAL DEVICES
You may:
a.  fit additional headlights up to a total of six; 
b. change headlamp glass, reflector, and bulbs; 
c.  fit reversing lights; 
d.  change the battery and convert all electrical devices from 6 to 12 volts; the capacity (amperehours) of the battery is free;
e.  move the battery from the cockpit to another compartment for safety reasons, but not from another compartment to the cockpit; 
g.  change or add a horn;
h.  add extra relays;
i.  lengthen battery cables;
j.  freely change all electrical switches with regard to their purpose, location, and number; 
k.  replace the dynamo (generator) with an alternator to a specification available in the period, of equivalent or greater output, but the system and method of driving the generator must be unchanged; the dynamo or alternator must generate electric output and be on load when the engine is running; toothed pulleys are not permitted.
  
15. WHEELS
You may:
a. use non-original wheels, provided:
i. wheel diameter is not changed;
ii. rim width does not exceed the original specification by more than one inch;
iii.  the wheels are of a design or type available during your car's period;
iv.  no part of the tire extends beyond the bodywork;
b.  remove hub caps, wheel embellishers, and wheel trim; 
c.  alter the method of attachment, but not the location, of the spare wheel; 
d.  reinforce the wheels, which may entail a modification of the attachment system, provided such an attachment system was used in period for that model. 
  
16. TIRES
a. You can only use the following tires:
i.  Dunlop Vintage "L" or "M" section racing tires (204 compound; tread pattern CR65 or earlier);
ii.  Dunlop Vintage "L" or "M" section and Post-Historic ranges;
iii.  GoodYear "Blue Streak";
iv.  Avon FF 5.0/22 x 13 and 6.5/23 x 13; or
v.  road tires with an aspect ratio of at least 60% (for Groups A, B, and C) and 65% (for all other Groups) 
b.  Compound and Tread. 
You cannot use modern racing compounds and tires with an "R", "HFR", or similar suffix or prefix, indicating they are formulated for competition. Slicks are prohibited. 
c.  Tire Size.
Tire sizes are free, but no part of the tire may extend beyond the bodywork.
   
17. WEIGHT
a.  Minimum Weight. 
Your car's weight must not be less than the FIA homologated minimum weight or, if the model was not homologated, than the original specification of your car.
b.  Ballast. 
If your car is underweight, you may make up the shortfall with ballast, provided you use strong, unitary blocks, securely fixed to the floor of the cockpit, visible, and sealed by the scrutineers. A spare wheel securely fixed may be used as ballast. 
   
18. SUPPLEMENTARY ACCESSORIES
You may: 
a.  install accessories, provided they do not influence the behavior of the car and do not affect, even indirectly, the performance of the engine, steering, transmission, roadholding, or braking; 
b.  install accessories for aesthetic reasons or for interior comfort (lighting, heating, radio etc.) or to enable easier or safer driving (Speed-pilot, windscreen washer, etc.);
c.  change nuts and bolts and lock them with pins or wire.
